FAQ

  • Ensure that you and anyone else involved in the accident is safe and unharmed.
  • In the event of any serious injury or emergency situation, call 911 for immediate assistance.
  • In a non-emergency situation, contact the local police authorities to report the accident. In the event the accident occurs in the jurisdiction of the Ontario Provincial Police, call 1-888-310-1122 to reach their local dispatch.
  • The police will instruct you on what to do. They may attend, or in other circumstances, they may direct you to attend a collision reporting centre. Please note the law in Ontario requires that all motor vehicle accidents that result in damages in excess of $1,000 or which causes injury to any person are reported to the police. This includes single vehicle accidents. Even minor impacts can result in damages greater than $1,000 and it is a best practice to report all accidents and follow the police instruction.
  • Before leaving the scene of the accident, please write down the name, address, phone number, insurance information and vehicle license number of anyone involved in the accident or anyone who may have witnessed the collision.
  • Remain at the scene until the police arrive or instruct you otherwise.
  • Notify your Insurance Broker or Agent to report the accident. It is condition of your policy that all accidents must be reported, even if there is no discernable damage to your own vehicle.
  • In the event the loss has occurred outside of our normal business hours, and you require urgent assistance, please follow the directions above for our after hours claim service.
  • Your HTM Insurance Adjuster will contact you as soon as possible thereafter.
